Anyone who has read the excellent Sonar manuals after using the limited "online help" included with the same program will know that a full printed version of the chm file will in no way provide the same information in the same easily assimilated format that the pdf did. The writer of that argument, who is intimately familiar with the program from his work as a developer, may believe that the help file is the equivalent of a manual in that it includes instructions for most of the usual user tasks, but it is not identical. I am not convinced by an argument made in one thread that the help file is the same as the manual. Now I am thinking about buying a new version of Sonar and I am reading in a number of threads that there is no manual. Long after Microsoft had invented the endlessly frustrating context sensitive help system with a search system that only recognized Microsoft jargon, and had opened a new revenue stream to produce semi-intelligible (and pitifully incomplete) user manuals via Microsoft press, at least one developer seemed to be aware of the need for a good manual. That has not always been true of the add-ons, for which I have charitably blamed the fact that they were in many cases purchased from lesser shops, but Sonar et. One of the most impressive aspects of the Cakewalk culture has been the production of excellent readable and relatively complete documentation for their flagship products.
